What is a Clinical Medical Assistant?

A Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) is a medical support professional that performs a variety of tasks to assist physicians in providing patient care. While CMAs working in smaller practices may be required to perform some administrative tasks, those working in larger medical facilities focus mainly on providing support services directly related to patient care. Typically, Medical Assistants prep rooms and prepare patients for examinations, while helping manage medical supply inventories. CMAs may also assist nurses and physicians providing direct patient care by taking medical histories, charting vitals, and assisting in procedures. Some even perform more advanced tasks under the supervision of a physician such as cleaning and dressing wounds, removing sutures, collecting blood and other specimens, as well as administering medication.

Characteristics of a successful Clinical Medical Assistant: Excellent communicator, ability to multitask, organized, ability to handle stress and think clearly on their feet. One must be compassionate while still maintaining a professional distance.

This is a hybrid course: a combination of Online Classes and In-person skills held locally at Adult Education Centers in Maine. This course provides an in-depth understanding of depression, covering its symptoms, risk factors, diagnostic criteria, and treatment options, both conventional and integrative. Gain the knowledge to recognize and manage symptoms of depression. You'll also learn about the critical issues surrounding suicide, including risk factors, assessment, and prevention strategies.

Depression (also known as major depression, major depressive disorder, or clinical depression) is a common, yet serious, mental health disorder in adults, children, and adolescents. Depression interferes with an individual's daily life and normal functioning and may cause emotional pain for the individual with the disorder as well as family and friends. By understanding the symptoms, risk factors, criteria for diagnosis, and treatment options available, depression can be recognized early, and depressive symptoms can be reduced or alleviated. Death by suicide, which can result from depression, is a tragic reaction to stressful life circumstances. Understanding the issues surrounding suicide and mental health is a vital step in preventing suicide, helping others in crisis, and changing the way all of us view suicide and mental health issues.

Living in our beautiful rural community has many wonderful advantages. However, driving can be a challenge for many familes juggling work and their children's  school and sport schedules. Having an extra driver in the family can make such a difference for so many families in our area. We work with Roy's Driver and Rider Education to ensure that the students in our community recieve quality driver's education, preparing them to be a safe, defensive driver once they get behind the wheel. For many of these families, having an additional driver is the benefit but, the tuition for driver's education can be a challenge. MSAD#44 Adult and Community Education has scholarships available to students through grants and donations from community members like you. If you and your student would like more information on the driver's ed scholarship, please contact the Adult Education Director Julie Hart at adulted@sad44.org  Thank you!
