Dawn Grondin, an AKC approved Canine Good Citizen evaluator is back to teach Basic Beginner Skills for puppies aged 12 weeks to less than 12 months.

Dogs must be current on all vaccinations (highly recommend kennel cough). Proof of rabies vaccination and town license for dogs over 6 months.

A flat collar, slip chain collar, or well fitted harness with a 6 foot leash (no retractables) is required. Handlers should wear footwear and clothing that allows for all movements and quick thinking turns. Make sure to pack your doggie waste bags. Paper towels and disinfectant will be provided in the event of an accident. Handlers will be encouraged to potty their dog throughout the course of the class time.

Please do not feed your dog dinner prior to class and do bring enticing treats. Dried beef liver and chicken flavored treats, real meat in small chunks, cheese sticks, baby carrots, etc. Bring a chew toy/bone and cream cheese or xylitol free peanut butter to smear on in small amounts.

This class is suitable for one adult handler per dog at a time. Partners may audit and switch in/out at the discretion of the instuctor. Consistency is key for younger dogs. Please, no children as handlers or spectators. High School students may request permisson from the instructor. Cell phones will be off or on vibrate unless needed for the activity.

The focus for this class is on positive play and basic social skill development. Skills will inlcude name recognition, come when called, sit, down, and stay/wait. During the class, puppies/dogs will remain in their own disignated area space. Please do not interact with other teams unless it is part of the activity. Beginning loose leash walking will be practiced. The goal of this class is to model for handlers how to be the best human dog to meet their puppy's needs and set the foundation for all other canine good citizen skills. Emphasis on the handler's confidence and patience while training the dog and building a positive, secure relationship with your dog. This class is taught by an AKC approved Canine Good Citizen evaluator. She has self trained many dogs to pass the CGC and therapy dog tests. This class is a great precursor to the Virtual Home Manners test.

This class is six weeks.
