For Dogs over 1 year. The emphasis for this class is on basic obedience introduction and on the handler’s skills. This class will prepare teams for the AKC Canine Good citizen test. A wide range of skills will be modeled and practiced: behaving in a crowd, polite leash manners, respectfully working around other dogs, greeting people politely, staying in place, recalls, leaving distractions alone, managing unexpected distraction alone, managing unexpected noises/actions, supervised separation from the handler, and fun splinter/shadow skills to keep your dog’s mind engaged and happy. The instructor will provide demonstrations and several alternative ways to get your dog to be successful in the skill areas.Treats will be used as rewards and not lures as well as gradually faded out to performing without it. Training is a process and with due consistency will go smoothly and well. EMphasis on the handler dog relationship is a priority, positive reinforcement, and building a safe, secure bond. Six weeks
